My 6 year old "helped" with the birthday cake and I almost threw the whole thing in the trash
So last Saturday I had 90 minutes before my daughter's 7th birthday party at our place in Akron and I still had to frost the cake. I had baked two 9 inch rounds the night before and they came out fine, cooling on the rack while I cleaned up. Turned my back for maybe 2 minutes to grab the sprinkles and my 6 year old had climbed on a chair and dumped almost a full cup of chocolate chips into the buttercream I just finished whipping. Not folded in, dumped. I stood there staring at this lumpy gray brown bowl ready to cry. My first instinct was to scrape it all in the bin and start over but I had no more powdered sugar in the house. So instead I whipped it on high for like 3 minutes to break the chips down and honestly it turned into this cookies and cream situation that looked intentional. Everybody at the party asked for the recipe and I just said oh it's a family thing. The real lesson is if you ever panic about frosting, more mixing fixes a lot more than you'd think. So what's your worst kid in the kitchen moment, and did you save it or scrap it?
Man, isn't that just how life works though? You're scrambling and everything's a mess and then you just keep going and somehow it turns into the thing people like most. Half the stuff I'm proudest of came out of some dumb accident I was sure I'd ruined.
