Burned my first sourdough so bad the smoke alarm went off in 3 rooms

I was at my friend's place last Saturday trying to bake a loaf from her starter she gave me. She told me to watch the temp and rotate the pan halfway through but I got distracted by her cats knocking stuff over. After 35 minutes the kitchen looked like a fog machine and her neighbor knocked to ask if everything was okay. She just laughed and said she burned her first 5 loaves before she got the hang of it. Has anyone else had a baking fail that turned into a good story later?

Oh absolutely, I set off the fire alarm in my whole house once trying to toast pine nuts for a pesto recipe. They went from golden to black smoke in like 30 seconds and I had to open every window in the middle of winter just to get the smoke out. My neighbor actually texted me later to ask if I was okay and I just told her I was practicing my skill of burning things that aren't even on fire yet.

Did the exact same thing last week, smoke detectors are still mad at me.
