Burned 3 batches of cookies at my sister's holiday party last December

I was trying to bake 4 dozen sugar cookies in a tiny apartment oven that ran 50 degrees hot. The first tray came out charcoal black after 8 minutes, and I didn't check the temp until batch 3 was ruined. My sister's friends kept making jokes about smoke alarms going off. Has anyone else dealt with an oven that lies about its actual temperature?

Grabbed an oven thermometer for $6, fixed everything instantly.

Grabbed one of those oven thermometers too and it was a total game changer. Turns out my oven was running 75 degrees hot, no wonder everything was burning.
