Switched from a plastic bowl to a ceramic one for my sourdough starter and the rise time cut from 12 hours to 8

Wait is this really something people track that closely? I bet @troy_reed is right, it’s probably just your starter finally hitting its groove or the temp changed a couple degrees. Plastic bowls aren’t some biohazard for yeast, they’re fine. Ceramic holds heat different sure but not enough to shave off 4 hours overnight. Feels like one of those things where you notice what you wanna notice.

What if your starter just got stronger on its own? Ceramic doesn't magically make yeast work faster. My money is on the room being warmer that day or you fed it differently. Plastic is fine, I've used the same tub for years with zero issues. People read way too much into this stuff.

That's wild, maybe the plastic was holding onto the cold more.
