My stand mixer pulley belt snapped mid-batch of sourdough yesterday

It was right after I'd mixed in 6 cups of flour for a double batch, so I grabbed a hand whisk and finished by arm power, but now I'm wondering if there's a way to check these belts before they fail, or is it just luck of the draw?

Six cups of flour is way too much for a double batch of sourdough.

Hang on @reese_patel, have you weighed that flour instead of measuring it? Six cups could be right on if your starter is really active and you're using a high hydration dough. A lot of sourdough recipes online are just guesses, not lab tested like the old ones.
