Just realized my sourdough starter took 14 days to actually get active

I kept reading online that a starter is ready in 5-7 days, but mine just sat there doing nothing for almost two weeks. I was feeding it every 12 hours with 50g of flour and 50g of water, keeping it at 72 degrees, and it barely bubbled until day 10. Some people say you should just wait it out, others say you need to toss and restart if it's not rising fast enough by day 7. Which side do you fall on, and how long did your first starter really take to get going?

Always thought people who stuck with this stuff were crazy patient or something. Then my first attempt took about 9 days and I nearly quit every single night. It was just sitting there on my desk staring at me like a challenge. Now I get why people say the payoff makes up for the waiting. Funny how a little bit of time can completely flip your opinion on something.
