Burned my sourdough starter on a heating pad last week

Left my starter on a heating pad in Denver for 3 days straight. Got up to 120 degrees and killed the whole thing. Had to start over from scratch with a new culture from a friend in Boulder. Anyone else wreck their starter with too much heat?

Did you ever hear about that trick where you put the starter in the microwave with the door cracked for light? I read it somewhere and it seems way safer than a heating pad.

Dude that sucks, honestly. I've never killed one that bad but I left mine on top of the fridge once and it got kinda funky. Glad you got a backup from your friend though.
