The 2nd hand store manager who swore crocs would fix my foot pain
Last March I was complaining about heel pain at a thrift shop in Portland and the manager insisted I ditch my sneakers for crocs, so I wore them for 6 weeks straight. Turns out he was totally right, my plantar fasciitis is gone, but now I can't wear any other shoe without aching again. Has anyone else gotten stuck in a weird footwear fix like this?

@the_faith might have a point about the foot muscles turning to jelly, but honestly, my plantar fasciitis used to make me hobble like I'd been shot in the ankle, so I'll take the ugly clogs. Six weeks straight in crocs, even wore them to a wedding with dress socks, which was a real fashion moment. Sure, real shoes still ache after an hour, but that's a fair trade for not crying every morning when my feet hit the floor. At least my feet aren't the ones getting judged, it's my whole outfit that's a mess now.

Honestly, that sounds less like a fix and more like a trap. You traded one problem for a lifetime sentence of looking like you're about to go kayaking. Those things are basically glorified garden clogs, and now your feet are so lazy they can't handle a real shoe with actual support and structure. You basically let your foot muscles and tendons turn to jelly, so of course anything with a normal heel drop feels like torture now. The real cure for plantar fasciitis is stretching and strengthening, not finding the one ugly shoe that hides the problem. So congrats, you're not healed, you're just hooked on the easiest possible option that makes your feet weak. Good luck wearing anything to a wedding or a job interview without crying by hour two.
