Serious question, who actually needs a $300 DNA test to find out they're 12% Irish?
I dropped $299 on one of those ancestry kits for my mom's birthday in April and it was a total bust. The results came back as a vague mix of "broadly northwestern European" and "trace regions," which tells us basically nothing we didn't already guess at dinner. Then they wanted another $19 a month to unlock "premium traits" like whether she can taste cilantro, which is just a scam on top of a scam. I could've spent that money on a nice dinner for the family and learned the same amount. My sister got hers done at a different lab and her numbers didn't even match, so which one is right? Has anyone actually gotten anything useful out of these things or is it all just a pricey party trick?
