Picked the rental car over my truck for a road trip, and I'm still paying for it

Last month I had to drive from Columbus to Nashville for a family thing, and I had two options: my 2015 F-150 with 180k miles or a rental Chevy Malibu for $68 a day. I chose the rental because I figured my truck would break down or eat gas like crazy, but man was that a mistake. The Malibu had this weird seat angle that wrecked my back by hour three, and the backup camera was so laggy I almost backed into a pole at a rest stop in Kentucky. Meanwhile my buddy drove his old clunker the same route and had zero issues, just needed an oil change after. So now I'm sitting here wondering, has anyone else picked the 'safer' option and ended up regretting it way more than if they'd just trusted their own stuff?
