My dentist said I brush wrong and now I don't trust my whole morning routine

I told my dentist in Austin I brush for a full 2 minutes twice a day and he laughed, then showed me my gums are receding because I push too hard with a medium bristle brush, so has anyone else had a basic habit completely debunked by a professional after years of doing it?

Take a breath before you toss out the whole toothbrush. I mean, yeah, pushing hard with a medium brush is a real thing, but a little gum recession at your age is basically a rite of passage. My guy told me the same thing back in 2020, I switched to a soft brush and light grip, and guess what? My gums didn't grow back or anything dramatic. He's just covering his bases so you don't sue him later. Honestly, it's not like he caught you brushing with a wire brush or flossing with fishing line. You're still brushing twice a day, which puts you ahead of like half the people I know.
