I think tipping culture is fine and I stopped feeling bad about it
I waited tables at a diner in Boise for 3 years. Got paid $3.35 an hour plus tips. The tips were everything. People who tip well are not being suckers. They are paying for the food the same way anyone else does. The boss just pushes part of the bill onto you instead of the menu.
When I stopped seeing a tip as charity and started seeing it as part of the price, I stopped resenting it. I stopped feeling weird about leaving 20 percent and started feeling weird about leaving 10.
A guy I worked with said the tip is the only review that comes in cash. That line lives in my head rent free.
Anyway I know people hate this take. Fire away.
