Update: my 6 hens hit 1,000 eggs in 11 months and I'm not bragging, I'm confused
I started a tally on the coop wall in April and hit egg number 1,000 last Saturday, which works out to about 1.5 eggs per hen per day. My neighbor Dale in Lansing said his flock never gets close to that, and now I'm second guessing whether my Buff Orpingtons are freaks or if I'm doing something he's not. They get kitchen scraps, free range on 400 square feet, and 14 hours of light, but that can't be the whole story. What's your real eggs-per-hen number, and did it hold up through a cold winter or fall off a cliff like I'm scared of?
