The day 11 chicks taught me to trust my own eyes over the internet
Last Tuesday my brooder thermometer read 92 degrees but my silkies were huddled under the lamp shivering. Every forum post I read said 95 is the magic number for week one, so I trusted that over my birds. I bumped it up to 98 and within an hour they spread out and started scratching like normal. Cost me a replacement thermometer from Tractor Supply for $14, but the old one was off by 6 degrees. Now I watch the chicks first and the gadget second. Anyone else had a cheap thermostat lie to them and waste a whole day of worry?
