Strung up my first DIY solar owl decoy last month
I tried putting together a solar powered owl decoy from some scrap wood and a $12 solar light from Menards to keep hawks away from my Brahmas. Figured it would just be a fun project but my flock has been way calmer during the day since I set it up. Did anyone else have luck with homemade predator decoys or am I just getting lucky here?

Nice work, that gives me some ideas for my own coop setup.

Have you ever just assumed something was the best way and stuck with it for years? I used to be dead set on a raised coop with a wire floor, thinking it was cleaner and easier. Then I saw how yours manages moisture and the deep litter setup, and it really made me rethink things. My old setup always had issues with the bedding getting sour in the winter, but your approach with the ventilation and compost layer actually looks like it handles that problem way better. Plus, the way you integrated the run with that simple roof pitch is genius for keeping things dry without a ton of extra work. Definitely makes me want to try something similar next time I have to rebuild.
