Overheard a guy at the feed store say he just throws his coop bedding in the woods
I was picking up a bag of pine shavings in Springfield last Tuesday and heard another customer tell the clerk he dumps his old coop litter straight into the treeline behind his property. That's a fast way to attract every raccoon and rat in the county looking for an easy meal. What's your method for disposing of used bedding without inviting pests?

Tossing it in the woods is basically free fertilizer. The local wildlife already lives there anyway, so it's not like you're creating a new problem. A little extra organic matter never hurt anyone.

Look at what happened to my neighbor. He tossed chicken scraps in the woods and it drew every raccoon and possum for a mile. They tore up his garden looking for more and then started hanging around his actual coop. It's not just fertilizer, it's a dinner bell for pests. You're basically training them to come to your property.

Yikes, that's asking for trouble. I compost mine in a hot pile far from the coop, turns into great garden dirt.
