My runny egg prank on the hens backfired for 12 whole days
I kept finding soft shell eggs in the coop and figured my girls needed more calcium, so I crushed up a whole pack of oyster shells and sprinkled them around like confetti. Nothing changed for 12 days straight, and I was out there at 6am every morning poking at rubbery eggs like a weirdo. My neighbor Deb came by and asked why the run had a ring of white powder around it like a crime scene. Turned out the real problem was one hen hogging the feeder and scaring the others off, so the shy ones were barely eating at all. I moved a second feeder to the far corner and got hard shells within 48 hours. Why do the loudest hens always get to make the rules?
Man, 12 days of playing detective at 6am and the whole time it was just a chicken power trip. That tracks. Every flock has that one bossy hen who thinks she owns the feeder like it's her personal throne. Good thing Deb showed up, otherwise you'd still be out there dusting the run like a donut.
