My barred rock escaped through a gap in the run and I found her 3 houses down
Last Tuesday I was filling the waterer when I noticed only 5 of my 6 hens in the run, and there was a 4 inch gap at the bottom corner where the hardware cloth pulled loose from the frame. I followed a trail of feathers down the block and found my barred rock in a neighbor's flower bed on Elm Street, calm as anything. Should I refasten the cloth with screws and washers or just bury the bottom edge in the ground to stop this from happening again?
That had to be such a scary moment when you counted and came up one short. I've been there with a hen that squeezed under the gate, and it is such a relief when you finally spot them. So glad your barred rock was fine and just hanging out in some flowers.
