I used to think chicken diapers were a dumb joke
But my Buff Orpington, Mabel, got a foot injury and needed to stay inside for a week. A friend lent me one, and it actually kept my couch totally clean. Has anyone else had to use these for a real reason?

Mabel having a foot injury is exactly the kind of thing that proves there's a real use for them. I've seen folks use them for egg bound hens too, keeps the mess contained while they're on strict crate rest.

Yeah, we had to do the same thing when one of our girls had a sour crop and needed to stay in a dog crate in the laundry room. I thought it was silly too until I was staring at the mess after the first hour. That diaper was a total game changer for keeping things clean while she healed. It just makes a tough situation a little easier to handle.

Funny enough, I used to roll my eyes at people buying chicken diapers. Thought it was one of those overpriced gadgets that folks just get for the novelty. Then we had a hen with a leg issue that needed to be indoors for about a week. That first night without a diaper taught me real quick. Woke up to droppings smeared across a towel and all over the crate floor. My wife ordered one first thing the next morning and I had to eat my words. Now I'm the one recommending them to folks who are new to crate rest.

Oh, the glamour of chicken care. I remember my first time with a crate-bound bird, thinking a towel would be fine. Two minutes later it looked like a crime scene. That diaper felt ridiculous until it saved my laundry room floor from total ruin.
