Can we talk about how I was giving my hens way too much scratch grain

I mean, I was just tossing it out every afternoon for months until my vet in Tacoma said their weight gain was making egg laying harder. Anyone else have a better routine for treats?

My neighbor's goats got so fat on apple scraps they could barely climb their little hill. It's easy to overdo the good stuff when you're just being nice. I switched my chickens to a tiny scoop of scratch only on weekends.
