Wasted $200 on a fancy prebuilt greenhouse kit that fell apart in 6 months

I bought one of those aluminum frame greenhouse kits from a big box store last spring, thinking it'd be a shortcut. The plastic panels cracked in the first freeze and the frame bent in a mild wind. Anyone else have better luck with a DIY build using PVC or wood instead?

You know, I used to think those prebuilt kits were the smart way to go. I really did. I figured the engineers knew what they were doing and it would save me all the hassle of measuring and cutting. But after watching my neighbor's cheap Coleman model buckle in a snow load last winter, I totally changed my mind. Now I'm actually planning a PVC hoop house for next spring. I saw a YouTube video where a guy used 3/4 inch PVC and some rebar anchors, and it held up through a 40 mph gust. I'm a little worried about the plastic getting brittle in the sun, but at least I can replace just one sheet if it cracks instead of the whole frame.

Wait, didn't the UV light turn that PVC brittle in under two years?
