The inspector in my county told me one thing about my deck footings that saved me $2,400
Last month I was about 6 inches deep on 12 deck footings in my backyard here in Vancouver, WA when the county inspector stopped by for a different permit check. He glanced at my holes and said the frost line here is 12 inches, not 18 like I assumed from an old chart, so I was over-digging by 6 inches on every single hole. That meant I had already rented the auger for an extra day and bought 8 more bags of concrete than I needed, which was $2,400 wasted between rental, bags, and my time. He also said most folks in this county get it wrong the same way because old code sheets float around online. Has anyone else had an inspector catch something like this before you poured?
