That neighbor who told me to skip the gravel base for my shed
My neighbor Bob said I didnt need a gravel base for my 10x12 shed, just set it on dirt and itll settle fine. Two months later the whole floor started sinking on one side by a good 3 inches. Had to rent a truck from Home Depot, haul the shed off, and redo it with 4 inches of crushed stone like I shoulda done the first time. Anyone else get bad advice from a neighbor that cost them more in the end?

Bob's advice is garbage pure and simple. Dirt always settles unevenly especially when you put a heavy shed on it and rain gets in there. That three inch sink you got is actually pretty lucky it didn't go deeper and crack the floor joists. A proper crushed stone base drains water away and distributes weight so the ground underneath doesnt shift. My uncle did the same thing with a prefab shed years ago and ended up with a warped door frame that wouldnt close. Skimping on prep work always bites you in the end because you pay for it twice.
