Saw a stacked retaining wall in Grand Rapids that was already leaning after 2 years
Was walking my sister's dog through a neighborhood off Wealthy St in Grand Rapids last month and spotted a backyard retaining wall built maybe 2 years ago that was already bowing out toward the alley. What got me was the block courses were stacked almost flat with barely any batter, and there were zero weep holes or drainage gravel visible behind the cap. I'm not a mason but I've torn out enough of these to know that thing is holding back nothing but wet clay and bad news. If your wall is more than 3 feet tall and has no way for water to escape, go look at it after the next heavy rain. Anyone in here dealt with a wall that started leaning this fast, and did you try to brace it or just rip it out?
