Hit 100 pounds of scrap lumber pulled from one fence project, that stopped me cold
I tore down an old fence line behind my garage last month to make room for a bigger compost bin setup. The plan was to reuse the wood for raised beds, but after sorting through it, I ended up with right at 100 pounds of warped, nail-riddled boards that were only good for burning. I was annoyed at first, but then I started counting the cost of new cedar for the beds I actually wanted to build. That 100 pounds represented about $180 in material I didnt have to buy. It made me stop and actually measure every single piece before cutting, which I normally skip. Now I keep a running tally of salvaged wood weight on the shed door with a marker. Anyone else hit a random milestone like this that made you rethink how you approach a build? What was your number?

Tracking pounds of wood seems backwards to me. You saved money sure, but counting weight isnt measuring what the wood actually cost you in time pulling nails and cutting around rot. I salvaged a bunch of pallets once and ended up spending three weekends breaking them down for maybe 40 bucks worth of usable boards. Sometimes the cheapest material is the most expensive when you count your hours.
