Drainage debate: French drain vs dry well for a small backyard

I spent 4 weekends digging a French drain that still pools water after a heavy rain. Is dumping the work into a dry well actually better or am I just doing this wrong?

Digged my dry well right into a cable line, then filled it with water anyway lmao

Oh man I feel your pain lol. French drains are super finicky if the slope isn't just right or the fabric gets clogged. Dry wells work way better for small spaces if your soil drains decently just make sure you wrap it good with filter fabric so it doesn't fill up with silt right away.
