Changed my mind about building a pond after watching a neighbor's nightmare

I was dead set on digging a koi pond in my backyard last spring. Then I overheard my neighbor Mike complaining to his buddy about how his pond filter clogged 3 times in one month and he spent $200 on algae treatments. He said 'fish ponds look nice but they're more work than a lawn.' That made me think. I ended up going with a small recirculating water feature instead, way less maintenance. Has anyone else ditched a big pond plan for something simpler?

Had a buddy who saved for years to open a taco truck, Nancy, then the transmission blew week one.
