Am I the only one who took 3 weekends to level a 10x12 gravel pad in my backyard?

Three weeks ago I started a shed base in my backyard here in Boise and figured it would take one Saturday, maybe two. My ground slopes about 8 inches from one corner to the other, so every time I thought it was flat, the level said otherwise. Yesterday I finally got the pad within a quarter inch using a string line and a borrowed plate compactor, and my back is filing a complaint. Now the fun part starts, so what did you all use under your shed, just the gravel or did you add a wood frame on top?
