Water filter froze on the JMT and I nearly quit

Took my Sawyer squeeze up near Muir Pass last September and woke up to ice crystals in the bag. Had to melt snow for 2 days straight because I forgot to sleep with it in my jacket. Anyone else carry a spare filter or just risk the cold soak with a bandana?

Sleeping with your filter is basically a marriage requirement on the JMT.
