Watching a popular path wash away last season has me debating trail use

Some say we should always stay on the main trail to protect plants and stop new scars from forming. Others think that spreading out a bit on durable ground, like rock or sand, can ease the wear on overused spots. I've seen both approaches in the high country, and I'm not sure which really helps more. What do you all think is best for keeping routes healthy?

But doesn't that just make more problems?

My friend tried to save money by fixing his car himself. He replaced the brakes but forgot to tighten a bolt. The wheel came off while he was driving, and he had to pay for a tow and new parts. It ended up costing more than a mechanic would have charged.

That's the classic DIY trap right there. You save a hundred bucks on labor but then make a two thousand dollar mistake because one step got rushed. It's not just about knowing the steps, it's about the focus and double checking that comes with doing a job every single day. Your friend probably felt pretty confident right up until he heard that awful scraping noise.
