Warning: The old trail marker on the High Sierra Trail near Hamilton Lake is gone

I was out there last week and the big rock with the painted arrow that everyone used to find the creek crossing is just not there anymore. It must have washed away in the spring runoff. I had to backtrack almost a mile before I found the new, smaller cairn a ranger told me about later. Has anyone else hit that spot recently and found a better way to spot the turn?

Look for the three stacked rocks about fifty yards past the old spot.

Are you sure about that @adam_butler38? I've been going to that same spot for years and the three stacked rocks you're talking about got knocked over by the last big storm we had. The rangers actually moved a bunch of the trail markers around after that too, so what used to be "fifty yards past" might not even be the same distance anymore. I'd double check with someone who's been out there recently before you go wandering off the main path. Seems like a good way to end up lost for a few hours honestly. Last time I trusted an old landmark like that I ended up bushwhacking through poison ivy for twenty minutes.
