The day my GPS sent me up a cliff in Oregon
I was hiking the Rogue River Trail last spring and my phone said there was a shortcut to the next camp. Big mistake. After 45 minutes of scrambling up a goat path with my 40 pound pack, I realized I was literally on a cliff edge. A guy kayaking below yelled up that the trail was on the other side of the river the whole time. Has anyone else had their GPS lead them somewhere totally ridiculous?

My wife and I had a similar experience on a trip to the Blue Ridge Parkway a few years back. The GPS told us to take a "scenic route" that turned into a one-lane gravel road hugging a steep mountainside with no guardrails. We were in a minivan with no cell service and had to back up a quarter mile to find a spot wide enough to turn around. The locals we met later just laughed and said that road is only for logging trucks, not tourists.

That "scenic route" line gets me every time... I tried a shortcut once that turned into a trail only a mountain goat would love, ended up sliding down a gravel bank on my backpack. Pretty sure my phone has a death wish at this point.
