Pro tip: that "expert level" trail on AllTrails was a total joke
I had a buddy swear by this route labeled 'hard' with 5 star reviews saying it was legit. Brought my climbing gear and everything. Turned out to be a paved path with one slightly steep hill. Wasted $30 on gas getting out there. Anyone else get tricked by overrated trail ratings?

Yeah I learned that lesson the hard way too. Now I check the actual trail length and elevation gain in the stats, not just the difficulty rating. Also worth looking at recent reviews from people who actually hiked it, not just the top rated ones.

@jakeperely exactly right. I started filtering by "most recent" reviews on AllTrails instead of "popular." Found a trail marked moderate that had 2,000 feet of gain in 3 miles. No thanks. Also check the timestamps on photos. Some of those top photos are 5 years old and the trail looks totally different now.
