My trail buddy in Colorado said 'you're just walking on a line someone else drew' and it messed me up for a week.

That's such a weird thing to get hung up on. Everything is a line someone else drew, roads are just lines for cars. Does your buddy only walk in straight lines through untouched wilderness? Sounds exhausting. Tell him his deep thought is just a rerun of a bumper sticker. Go enjoy the trail.

Honestly used to agree with @the_dylan on this, thought it was overthinking. Then I got lost once off-trail for hours, phone dead, totally panicked. That painted line on a tree or rock pile suddenly felt like a friend saying "this way home." Now I see trails as a kind of promise, not just a line. Lets you look at the trees instead of your feet the whole time.

Admit I used to roll my eyes at this stuff too, but you and @the_dylan actually changed my mind.
