My tent pole snapped on the Lost Coast Trail last weekend

It was the main support pole, and I had to use a ton of duct tape and a trekking pole to rig it for the last two nights. What's your go-to field repair for a broken pole section?

Carry a spare pole section, always.

Kelly's advice is solid, but a full spare section is overkill for most day trips. A repair sleeve takes up way less space and handles most breaks. I've fixed two mid-section cracks with just the sleeve and some tape.

Prefer the repair sleeve myself. It's lighter and fits in a small bag pocket. Fixed a clean break last season in under five minutes. The spare section is just extra weight for my usual day hikes.
