Just realized the old trail to the summit in the White Mountains is getting completely rerouted this summer.
I was up near Mount Washington last weekend and saw crews putting up new signs for a path that adds almost a mile but avoids a badly eroded section near the tree line.

That reroute past the Alpine Garden is long overdue. Honestly, the old path was just a mudslide waiting to happen.

Actually the new route goes around the Alpine Garden, not past it. Good point though, @zarapalmer, that old stretch was a real mess.

Remember that section near the summit cone where the old trail just vanished into loose scree? I heard the park service spent over two years studying water flow before they even drew up new plans. What took them so long to finally pull the trigger on the funding?
