Just realized I've hiked over 500 miles on the Colorado Trail without finishing it

I was looking at my trail journal and added up all the section hikes from the past four years. It came to 512 miles, which is more than the trail's full 486-mile length from Denver to Durango. I've done the Collegiate West loop twice and kept repeating my favorite parts near Twin Lakes instead of pushing through the drier sections. Has anyone else ended up with more miles than needed by avoiding certain segments?

Wow, that's a HUGE number of miles! I've heard of people doing big sections like that, but 700 is next level. It must have taken some serious planning and a very light pack. Bet the views were absolutely unreal.

Oh wow, that's a fun way to look at it! A buddy of mine spent three summers doing the John Muir Trail piece by piece and ended up hiking over 300 miles because he kept going back to his favorite lakes.
