Just got back from the Lost Coast Trail in NorCal and the creek crossing at Randall Creek is way worse than the guidebooks say right now.

Jumped that crossing last week and nearly went ass over teakettle. The current was pushing harder than I expected, and the rocks were slick as hell. Guidebooks always seem to be a season behind on the actual conditions. That snowmelt this year is no joke, it's still pumping water down those creeks even in late spring. I'd say bring a hiking pole or a stout stick to brace yourself, because that gravel bottom will shift under you if you stop moving.

My buddy tried crossing that same creek last spring and his pack strap snapped halfway through. He had to hold his whole pack above his head in freezing water while his boots filled with gravel. We spent an hour on the other side trying to wring out his socks. That whole stretch can change so fast with the snowmelt.
