I was looking at the map for the Enchantments and the elevation gain is way more than I thought
I mean, I knew the Core Zone was tough, but I was checking the Forest Service page last night and the total climb from the Stuart Lake trailhead to Aasgard Pass is over 4,400 feet. That's just to get to the top of the pass, not even counting the rest of the route. I guess I always pictured it as more of a steady uphill, not a straight-up wall. It kind of makes me rethink my training plan for a permit attempt next year. Has anyone else had a route's stats surprise them like that?

It's just walking uphill, not rocket science.

But have you tried walking uphill for like, three hours straight with a heavy pack? The burn is real, and it becomes a whole mental game.
