Got totally lost trying to find the trailhead for the Enchantments loop... what should have been a 30 minute drive took me almost 3 hours.

Getting lost on the way to a hike is basically part of the warm-up. You just got in a bonus three hour scenic drive, that's all. The trailhead signs are basically invisible on purpose to test your commitment. At least you got the worst part over with before you even started walking.

Totally agree, it's a secret test. I swear the real trailhead is always a mile past where the map says, hidden behind the one tree that hasn't fallen down yet. You earn your hike by proving you can find the thing first.

People really act like finding a trailhead is some kind of survival test. It's just a sign nailed to a tree, half the time the thing is faded and pointing the wrong way anyway. You can spend an hour driving up and down the same gravel road and still miss it because someone decided the parking lot would be a good place for a pile of rocks instead. I don't think it's a secret test, I think the park service just ran out of money for proper signage and nobody bothered to update the map. Getting lost for three hours isn't building character, it's just wasting gas and making you cranky before you even start walking.
