Update: my brother keeps asking our mom for $40 gas money every week and I finally asked where it goes
So my brother has been hitting up our mom for $40 almost every week since March, and she keeps giving it to him without a word. I finally asked him at a family dinner in Toledo where the money goes, and he got quiet and said he's been paying off a $600 repair bill on his truck that he was too embarrassed to tell anyone about. The thing I keep getting wrong before this was thinking he was just being lazy with cash, when really the silence was the problem the whole time. My mom said she had no idea either and wished he had just said something. Has anyone found a way to get a sibling to open up about money stuff without it turning into a fight at the table?

Ugh, money stuff always comes out sideways at dinner, try a one-on-one drive instead.
