Told my dad I'd pay him back $400 for my car repair in one lump sum, but he said no and asked for $50 a month

I owed my dad $400 after he covered a surprise alternator swap on my Corolla back in March, so I figured I'd just hand him the full amount from my next paycheck and be done with it. He turned it down and said he'd rather have $50 a month for 8 months because it would give us a reason to grab lunch and catch up, which honestly weirded me out at first. Has anyone else had a parent turn a debt into an excuse to hang out, and did it feel as strange as it sounds?
