Overheard my brother-in-law planning to ask my parents for a $15,000 loan

I was at a family dinner last Sunday and heard my brother-in-law on the phone in the kitchen. He was talking about asking my retired parents to cosign on a $15,000 loan for a new truck. My parents are on a fixed income and just paid off their house. Has anyone else had to step in when a relative was about to pressure older family members into a bad financial move like this?
