My sister asked to borrow $2,000 for a 'sure thing' investment and I had to say no...

The whole week was tense after I told her I couldn't do it, and she hasn't returned my calls since Tuesday, which really stinks because we usually talk every day.

Ugh that's rough. What was this "sure thing" she wanted to put the money into anyway? Like was it some crypto scheme a friend told her about or one of those weird online courses that promise you'll get rich? The details matter because sometimes people get sucked into stuff without really looking into it.

And did she even check if it was legit?

And I've seen this play out before a friend of mine got talked into putting her savings into some "guaranteed" real estate flipping deal a guy from church was running. @davis.diana you're right to question the checking part, because my friend never looked up the guy's license or past projects until everything fell apart. Turned out the whole thing was a pyramid scheme dressed up in nice presentations and promises.
