My mom's idea of helping with my debt made it worse, and I finally said no
Two years ago I let my mom "help" me by co-signing a $6,000 loan to clear my credit cards, and she brought it up at every family dinner in Fort Worth after that, like it bought her a say in how I spend money. Last month I paid off the last $800 myself and told her I would not take another dime from her, even though she offered to cover my truck repair. Has anyone here had to turn down family money just to get your own life back, or did you take the help and find a way to live with the strings?
How much is your peace actually worth to you? Taking that truck money would've been another dinner table speech about how you can't manage on your own. You did the right thing, keeping the strings off is worth more than the repair.
