My dad asked to borrow $5000 for a truck repair right after my wedding

Check if the truck repair is actually urgent or if he just wants a nicer truck. A lot of times these big asks are for wants, not needs. Him being upset you want to talk to your wife is a bad sign, it means he knows she might say no. Stick with your plan to discuss it with her, that's your money too now.
