My brother's blunt budget talk changed how I plan every grocery run
Last month in Columbus, my brother watched me toss a $60 cart of stuff I didn't need and flat out said 'you shop like you're mad at your wallet.' He showed me his weekly list with exact meal counts and I started doing the same. Now I write down what we'll actually eat for 5 dinners before I step into the store. I cut my weekly food bill from $140 to $95 and the fridge isn't full of rotting produce. Anyone else get a reality check from a sibling about money habits that actually stuck?
Does your brother's meal count thing work better when you plan around what's already in the fridge instead of starting fresh each week? I ask because that was the missing piece for me. I used to make a list of 5 dinners, buy everything for them, then watch half of it go bad because life happened and we ate out twice. Once I started writing the list by looking at what we already had first, then only buying the gaps, the savings got bigger and the waste basically stopped. The list itself is good but the order you build it in is what really cuts the bill.
