My brother called me out on a $200 loan I forgot about, now I use a simple notebook rule

I was at a family cookout last June and my brother brought up that I still owed him 200 bucks from when my truck broke down in March. I honestly forgot completely and felt like a jerk. After that I started keeping a small notebook in my glove box where I write down every single loan, even small ones like 20 bucks, the day it happens. Now every time I pay someone back I cross it out with the date. It has saved me from at least three awkward situations with my cousin and my buddy from work. Has anyone else had a loan slip their mind and cause a family fight?
