Can we talk about giving my sister a $500 loan for her car repair

I gave my sister the money thinking it would help our relationship, but now she avoids me at family dinners and I learned that mixing money with family can create a weird distance, even when you think you're helping, so has anyone else had a loan turn a sibling into a stranger?

My brother borrowed two grand from me last year and it actually brought us closer. He set up a payment plan and we talk about his budget now. Sometimes a loan is just a loan and the problem is other family stuff.
