Why does nobody talk about static discharge wiping out a GPS antenna at a small FBO in Wichita back in March
I was helping a guy troubleshoot a failed Garmin 430 at the field and we found the antenna was just dead after a lightning storm passed within a mile, and now I always check the lightning arrestor before anything else - has anyone else seen a strike take out avionics from a near miss?

Nah, you're reaching. Static discharge is way overblown, most gear survives fine.

Have you actually lost gear to static, or is this just guessing? I've seen it ruin a few studio sessions, so it's not nothing.
